US President Donald Trump says that Iran gave him an oil and gas-related “present” worth a “tremendous amount of money”, in a development linked to the Strait of Hormuz and ongoing efforts to end the conflict.
Speaking in the Oval Office on Tuesday (24 March), Trump stressed he does not “trust anyone” but said the undisclosed gesture indicated the US is “dealing with the right people”. He added the war “has been won” and could conclude soon, despite ongoing fighting.
The development comes as tensions remain high, with continued strikes between Iran and Israel, rising global energy prices, and reports of additional US military deployments to the region.
Diplomatic efforts are ongoing, including mediation offers and back-channel talks, though uncertainty persists over the status of negotiations and the likelihood of a halt of hostilities.
