Nigeria and Finland have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to expand cooperation in the digital economy, focusing on innovation, public services, and technical skills development.

Signed in Abuja by Communications Minister Bosun Tijani and Finland’s Under-Secretary of State for International Trade Jarno Syrjälä, the MoU outlines collaboration in:

• Digital government and cybersecurity

• Emerging technologies and digital public infrastructure

• Innovation ecosystems and skills development

Tijani described the agreement as “an important step” in fostering an inclusive, innovation-driven digital economy.

Syrjälä highlighted Nigeria’s role as a key African partner and emphasised the potential for digitalisation to empower citizens and stimulate innovation.

The partnership aligns with EU support, including a €23m Team Europe initiative under the Global Gateway strategy, designed to strengthen Nigeria’s digital services and technical talent programme.
