Russia’s Defense Ministry reported intercepting 389 Ukrainian drones overnight, marking the largest reported attack on Russian regions and Crimea since the 2022 invasion. The drones were intercepted over 13 regions, including the Crimean Peninsula, highlighting Ukraine’s growing domestic long-range drone capability.

The attack followed major Russian strikes on Ukraine, with nearly 1,000 drones and 34 missiles over 24 hours, killing at least six and injuring around 50. UNESCO condemned strikes on a World Heritage site in Lviv.

Ukrainian forces also carried out a missile strike on the Belgorod region on the border with Ukraine overnight, damaging energy infrastructure, its Gov. Vyacheslav Gladkov said.

Incidents involving stray drones were reported across the Baltic states. Estonian media reported a drone from Russia clipped a power plant chimney early Wednesday (25 March), but electricity production remained uninterrupted. On the same day, Latvian authorities confirmed a drone crash near the Russian border with no injuries or damage, while Lithuanian officials said a stray Ukrainian drone fell into a frozen lake near the Belarusian border on Monday.

Meanwhile, Moldova’s parliament approved a 60-day energy state of emergency after Russian strikes in neighbouring Ukraine disabled a power line supplying most of the country’s electricity. Deputies voted 72–29 in favour, with Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu condemning the attack as a war crime, aimed at leaving thousands without power.

The outage could reduce capacity by up to 400 megawatts during peak hours. President Maia Sandu said alternative power routes were in place but warned the situation remained serious. Ukrainian officials expect the line to be restored within five to seven days.

The escalation in aerial attacks comes amid a pause in US-mediated talks between delegations from Moscow and Kyiv, as Washington’s attention is diverted by the Iran war and as Ukraine anticipates a spring offensive by Russia’s bigger army.
