US President Donald Trump touted the United States as having “the most powerful military in the world by far”, with weapons “nobody’s ever seen before”, as he highlighted recent operations in Iran and Venezuela.

Speaking at the Future Investment Initiative (FII) Priority Summit in Florida on Friday (27 March), Trump reiterated his “peace through strength” approach, stating that while military force is not always intended, “sometimes you have to use it”, before adding that “Cuba is next”.

The comments come as Washington and Havana continue discussions aimed at avoiding escalation. Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel has confirmed ongoing talks, as the country faces a severe economic crisis.

Cuba’s economic strain has been compounded by reduced oil supplies following political changes in Venezuela, previously a key supplier.
