Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune on Saturday (28 March) underscored Algeria’s strategic ambition to consolidate its position as a “hub for digital innovation in Africa” during the Global Africa Tech Summit 2026.

He described the development of the telecommunications sector as a decisive challenge and a priority for Africa’s economic and social progress. Tebboune called for strengthened data sovereignty, urging countries to manage data flows, develop local services, and generate value within their borders.

The exhibition was inaugurated by Prime Minister Sifi Ghrieb, bringing together African delegations and international representatives.

UN Under-Secretary-General Amandeep Singh Gill, Special Envoy for Digital and Emerging Technologies, emphasised the need for coordinated AI governance, warning that the global digital divide could widen without collective action. He also encouraged African nations to build independent technological capacity to ensure equitable benefits.
