US Secretary of War Pete Hegseth outlined Washington’s evolving military posture towards Iran during a Pentagon briefing on Tuesday (31 March), alongside Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Air Force Gen. Dan Caine.
Hegseth stated that US military operations have intensified, with “increasing” American firepower and a reported decline in Iranian missile and drone activity over the past 24 hours. He indicated that the coming days could be decisive in shaping the trajectory of the conflict.
He also emphasised that diplomatic options remain open, noting that President Donald Trump is prepared to reach a deal with Iran under known terms, while warning of further escalation if negotiations fail.
