Syrian authorities announced on Saturday the temporary closure of the Jdeidet Yabous crossing with Lebanon, citing security concerns following warnings from Israel of potential strikes in the area.

The General Authority for Land and Sea Borders and Crossings stated the crossing, opposite Lebanon’s Masnaa crossing, is used exclusively for civilian traffic and is not linked to military activity. Authorities confirmed traffic would resume once conditions stabilise.

The announcement follows threats from the Israeli military, which claimed Hezbollah uses the Masnaa crossing for combat operations and smuggling. Israel urged residents near the crossing to evacuate, amid ongoing strikes across Lebanon.

Key developments:

• Israeli attacks in Lebanon killed at least seven civilians in Maaraka and Habbush, with dozens more wounded.

• Around 20,000 people remain in Tyre, despite evacuation orders; tens of thousands have fled.

• Israeli military reported 11 soldiers killed and more than 140 Hezbollah targets struck since ground operations began.

• UNIFIL reported three peacekeepers wounded, and Israeli forces destroyed 17 surveillance cameras near UN headquarters in Naqura.

Tensions along the Syrian-Lebanese border remain high amid wider regional hostilities involving the US, Israel, and Iran.
