Authorities in Serbia and Hungary have reported the discovery of explosives near the Balkan Stream gas pipeline, a key route transporting Russian gas to Central Europe.

Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić said security units found “two large packages of explosives with detonators” near Kanjiža, a short distance from the pipeline.

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán convened the country’s Defence Council, describing the situation as a suspected “act of sabotage”, though no actor has been formally identified.

Ukraine rejected any involvement. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Heorhii Tykhyi said Kyiv “categorically” denies links to the incident, suggesting it may be a Russian false-flag operation.

The development comes amid ongoing energy security concerns and ahead of closely contested elections in Hungary.
