Singapore and Australia have agreed to fast-track negotiations on a legally binding protocol covering economic resilience and essential supplies under their existing free trade agreement.

At a joint press conference, Prime Minister Lawrence Wong and Prime Minister Anthony Albanese emphasised strengthening trusted supply chains across critical sectors, including energy.

• Australia supplies over one-third of Singapore’s liquefied natural gas (LNG) imports.

• Singapore provides 26% of Australia’s refined fuel imports, including gasoline and aviation fuel.

• A new senior officials’ dialogue will address supply chain resilience and essential goods trade.

• An inaugural Energy Ministerial Dialogue has been commissioned.

Singapore relies on natural gas for around 95% of electricity generation, reinforcing the strategic importance of LNG flows. Both leaders reaffirmed commitments to maintain open trade and stable energy supply chains.

They also expressed support for the Middle East ceasefire, noting its broader economic implications.
