Lithuania is seeking to expand political and economic cooperation with Azerbaijan following Prime Minister Inga Ruginienė’s visit to Baku, with discussions centred on energy, trade, security and transport connectivity.

Speaking during the visit, Ruginienė emphasised the importance of strengthening partnerships amid a shifting geopolitical environment, highlighting cooperation across energy, education, agriculture and defence sectors.

Economic engagement remains a priority, with both sides exploring opportunities linked to Azerbaijan’s role as a regional transit hub connecting Europe and Asia. Energy cooperation, including renewables and efficiency, also featured prominently within broader EU diversification efforts.

• Development of the Middle Corridor as a key transport route

• Strengthening EU–Azerbaijan relations ahead of Lithuania’s 2027 EU Council presidency

Lithuania’s ambassador, Kęstutis Vaškelevičius, said Vilnius aims to advance EU–Azerbaijan dialogue during its upcoming presidency.
