South Korean President Lee Jae Myung and Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk have agreed to elevate bilateral relations to a comprehensive strategic partnership, strengthening cooperation across defence, energy supply chains, and infrastructure.

Speaking at Cheong Wa Dae, President Lee emphasised the implementation of existing defence agreements, while Prime Minister Tusk highlighted South Korea as a key strategic partner, particularly in the arms industry.

Defence collaboration has deepened since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, with Poland emerging as a major customer of Korean military systems.

Key developments:

• Poland’s $44.2bn defence framework includes K2 tanks, K9 howitzers, FA-50 aircraft, and Chunmoo systems

• A $4bn deal with Hanwha Aerospace expands Chunmoo rocket launcher acquisitions

• Cooperation to extend into energy supply chains, EV batteries, and infrastructure projects

• Both sides stress global supply chain stability amid Middle East conflict impacts

The leaders also agreed to enhance coordination on global security, linking stability in Europe and the Korean Peninsula.
