Germany and Poland have called for joint action to revitalise Europe’s economy amid slow growth compared to the US and China. The finance ministers of both countries outlined their plans during a press conference in Warsaw on Monday (2 February).
Key points from the meeting:
• Polish Finance Minister Andrzej Domanski stressed the need to make Europe “more competitive” and develop policies that restore economic, rather than regulatory, strength.
• German Vice Chancellor and Finance Minister Lars Klingbeil highlighted changes in the transatlantic relationship and emphasised strengthening Europe during his first visit to Poland in office.
• Ministers from six leading European economies, including Germany and Poland, pledged to accelerate EU projects stalled by complex decision-making.
• Domanski called for reforming markets, simplifying EU law, and leveraging the power of the common European market and its nearly 500 million consumers.
Both ministers underscored a shared responsibility to advance European economic competitiveness in a rapidly evolving global environment.
