North Korea has been urged to “stop provocative acts” after firing missiles from Sinpo on Sunday (19 April) morning, according to the South Korean military, with projectiles travelling around 90 miles into the Sea of Japan.

The launch, at around 6.10am local time, marks the fourth missile test this month and the seventh in 2026, amid reported escalation since the start of the Iran war. Officials say the activity reflects growing regional security concerns.

Former presidential security adviser Kim Ki-jung suggested the launches may signal self-defence capabilities and strategic pressure ahead of potential talks. IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi has also warned of significant advances in North Korea’s nuclear programme, including a possible new uranium enrichment facility.

US President Donald Trump has indicated interest in renewed dialogue during an upcoming Asia visit.
