France and Poland have agreed to jointly develop a military telecommunications satellite, reinforcing defence and industrial cooperation between President Emmanuel Macron and Prime Minister Donald Tusk.

Announced during talks in Gdańsk, the project will be delivered by Thales Alenia Space, Airbus Defence and Space, and Poland’s RADMOR, supporting secure communications for the Polish armed forces.

The initiative aligns with the European Commission’s Readiness 2030 defence strategy, aimed at strengthening Europe’s autonomy in security and space capabilities.

  • The satellite will operate in geostationary orbit, providing wide regional coverage from over 30,000 km above Earth.
  • The contract value has not been disclosed by the companies involved.
  • The project reflects Europe’s push to reduce reliance on external providers such as Starlink.
  • Broader talks included nuclear deterrence and energy cooperation.

France and Poland signed a defence cooperation treaty in 2025, deepening military and technological ties within NATO and the EU.
