US President Donald Trump has said he is “not satisfied” with Iran’s latest position in ongoing negotiations, while also defending newly increased tariffs on European Union vehicle imports during remarks to reporters on Friday (1 May).
Speaking on Iran, Trump described the country’s leadership as “very disjointed” and “very confused” following months of conflict and diplomatic tensions.
Despite continued diplomatic engagement, the US president suggested Iran “has got to come up with the right deal” if negotiations are to progress further.
On the EU, Trump defended his decision to raise tariffs on cars and trucks imported from the European Union to 25%, arguing that the bloc had failed to comply with an existing trade agreement with Washington.
The US president said the measures were intended to accelerate manufacturing investment inside the United States, noting that international companies were already committing “over a hundred billion dollars” towards new production facilities.
Trump added that vehicles produced in US-based plants would not face tariffs, saying the policy would encourage manufacturers to move production “much faster.”
