US forces carried out new strikes in southern Iran on Monday (25 May), targeting missile sites and boats allegedly laying mines near Bandar Abbas, according to US Central Command (CENTCOM). Officials described the action as self-defence.
CENTCOM spokesperson Capt Tim Hawkins said the operations aimed to “protect our troops from threats posed by Iranian forces”.

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said it had downed a US drone and fired on aircraft entering its airspace, while asserting a right to retaliate.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the Strait of Hormuz must remain open, while signalling ongoing negotiations with Iran and Qatar. US President Donald Trump said a deal remained possible amid continuing ceasefire discussions.
