Israel and Iran have halted military operations against one another, signalling a possible easing of tensions after a fresh exchange of retaliatory strikes threatened wider Middle East ceasefire efforts.

Iran’s Revolutionary Guards announced that attacks on Israel would cease but warned that any future Israeli strikes or hostile actions against Lebanon would prompt a stronger response. A person briefed on the matter said Israel had also decided to halt its operations.

US President Donald Trump urged both sides to stop fighting, writing on Truth Social: “Israel and Iran must immediately stop ‘shooting’.” He also said both countries were seeking an immediate ceasefire and that negotiations on peace were continuing.

Key developments:

  • Iran launched missiles towards northern Israel following an Israeli strike on southern Beirut targeting Hezbollah.
  • No injuries were reported from the Iranian missile barrage.
  • The exchange marked Iran’s first direct attack on Israel since the April ceasefire.
  • Brent crude oil prices fell after Iran announced it was suspending attacks.

The developments come as diplomatic efforts continue to preserve the regional truce and reopen the strategically important Strait of Hormuz, a key route for global energy supplies.
