Chinese President Xi Jinping and Myanmar President Min Aung Hlaing met in Beijing on Tuesday (16 Jun), where both leaders pledged to deepen China–Myanmar strategic cooperation and strengthen bilateral relations.

According to Chinese state media, Xi said China would continue supporting efforts to promote peace, reconciliation and stability in Myanmar, while expanding cooperation across economic, infrastructure and security sectors.

Key developments:

  • 18 cooperation agreements were signed covering trade, transport, health, media and disaster assistance.
  • Both leaders pledged stronger action against telecommunications fraud, online gambling and drug trafficking.
  • Discussions included cooperation linked to China’s Belt and Road Initiative projects in Myanmar.
  • The meeting marked the second Xi–Min Aung Hlaing summit in less than a year.

China remains Myanmar’s largest international partner and investor, with major projects including energy infrastructure and planned transport links connecting the two countries.
