The European Commission has signed a new EU–Ukraine Defence Industrial Partnership, launched the EU–Ukraine Drone Deal, and disbursed an additional €1 billion to strengthen Ukraine’s drone capabilities.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said the partnership would align defence standards, remove barriers to cooperation and support joint ventures between European and Ukrainian companies, strengthening Europe’s collective security.
Key developments:
- €1 billion released for drone procurement under the €90 billion Ukraine Support Loan.
- Joint production of drones and counter-drone systems is planned by the end of 2026, with anti-ballistic missile cooperation targeted by 2028.
- Ukraine has joined the European Defence Fund and European Defence Industry Programme, enabling joint defence research and industrial projects.
The measures aim to expand defence manufacturing, accelerate innovation and reinforce Ukraine’s defence capabilities while deepening EU industrial cooperation.
