Türkiye and Iraq have announced a broader energy partnership, with state-owned Türkiye Petrolleri Anonim Ortaklığı (TPAO) set to acquire a 15% stake in BP Energy Company of Kirkuk Limited (ECKL BP), supporting the redevelopment of major oil and gas fields in northern Iraq. 

The agreement was announced during Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi’s official visit to Ankara.

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said Iraq had proposed supplying up to 1 million barrels of oil per day to Türkiye under a new framework for energy cooperation.

  • TPAO will acquire a 15% stake in ECKL BP.
  • The project supports redevelopment of the Kirkuk, Baba, Avanah, Bai Hassan, Jambur and Khabbaz fields.
  • The transaction remains subject to regulatory approvals.
