Brunei’s Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim held the 27th Annual Leaders’ Consultation on (22 Aug), reaffirming their commitment to closer bilateral cooperation across security, trade, energy, infrastructure and regional affairs.
The leaders reviewed progress on implementing the 2009 Exchange of Letters, border demarcation and cross-border initiatives while reiterating support for ASEAN unity, regional stability and peaceful dispute resolution under international law.
Key developments
- Around 264.8km of the shared land boundary has been jointly surveyed, with full demarcation targeted by 2034.
- Cooperation will expand in energy, tourism, trade, defence, education, disaster management and business links.
- Both countries backed stronger ASEAN cooperation, maritime security and continued dialogue on regional and Middle East issues.
