Russian President Vladimir Putin met US President Donald Trump’s Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner at the Kremlin on Saturday (5 Sep) for discussions focused on diplomatic efforts surrounding the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

Putin said Moscow was prepared to discuss “all its components and all its aspects” regarding a possible settlement, adding that Russia valued continued contact with US representatives. He also thanked President Trump for efforts aimed at resolving the conflict.

Steve Witkoff said President Trump sent his best wishes and thanked Putin for supporting a temporary pause in strikes during the visit. “We appreciate the opportunity to be here,” Witkoff said, while acknowledging the importance of maintaining safe conditions for negotiations.

Putin said Russia had halted strikes on Kyiv following requests through official channels, while stating that Ukrainian strikes on Russian territory had also decreased.

The Kremlin said the Moscow discussions were “highly useful”, with Presidential Aide Yury Ushakov stating that US representatives presented ideas for a possible settlement. However, no breakthrough agreement was announced, with major differences between Moscow and Kyiv remaining unresolved.

The US delegation was expected to continue diplomatic discussions in Kyiv following the Moscow meeting.
