Russia and North Korea open Tumannaya River road bridge to expand cross-border cooperation 

Russia and the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) have officially opened a new road bridge across the Tumannaya River, marking a milestone in bilateral infrastructure cooperation.

The bridge was inaugurated by Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin and DPRK Prime Minister Pak Thae Song via video link. Pak Thae Song said the project would support further practical cooperation and promote shared development between the two countries.

Key developments:

  • Construction agreement was signed in 2024 in the presence of President Vladimir Putin and Kim Jong Un.
  • Construction began in April 2025 under Mikhail Mishustin and Pak Thae Song.
  • The crossing is nearly 5 km long, including a bridge of around 1 km.
  • The adjoining Khasan border crossing is designed to process up to 300 vehicles and 2,300 people daily at full capacity.
