China says diplomatic talks between Pakistan and Afghanistan’s Taliban government are progressing, following renewed consultations in Urumqi hosted by Beijing.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning described the process as “being steadily implemented and advanced” and confirmed arrangements on how talks and media coverage will operate.

Beijing has maintained communication channels with both Islamabad and Kabul since a recent escalation in fighting, aiming to support dialogue and reduce cross‑border tensions.

• Both governments have affirmed support for China’s mediation efforts, Mao said.

• Talks resumed on Wednesday after weeks of combat that have caused significant casualties.

• Islamabad blames militants it says are sheltered across the border; Kabul denies supporting them.

The meetings signal diplomatic engagement despite ongoing security challenges in the region.
