Malaysia’s Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese have reaffirmed their countries’ commitment to energy cooperation, citing shared concerns over the Middle East conflict and its impact on global supply chains.

Meeting in Putrajaya, Anwar said state energy firm Petronas would prioritise supplying excess fuel to Australia, while maintaining domestic needs. The discussions also covered expanding agricultural trade and potential exchanges involving phosphates and urea.

In a joint statement, both leaders emphasised their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, highlighting a shared commitment to open, rules-based trade and stable energy flows. They noted the importance of mutual supply arrangements in supporting regional energy security.

Albanese confirmed Australia has secured additional diesel shipments from regional partners and reiterated Canberra’s commitment to honour existing contracts with Malaysia.
