Slovenia faces political uncertainty after outgoing Prime Minister Robert Golob, leader of the Freedom Movement, confirmed he cannot form a governing coalition following the 2026 parliamentary election.

Despite winning 29 of 90 seats, Golob failed to secure a majority and informed President Nataša Pirc Musar that his party will move into opposition after unsuccessful coalition talks.

Attention now shifts to Janez Janša, head of the Slovenian Democratic Party, who is expected to explore forming a right-wing coalition, though numbers remain uncertain.

Janša, a three-time former prime minister, stated his party is prepared for government, opposition, or potential repeat elections.
