Vietnamese Communist Party General Secretary and President To Lam hosted South Korean President Lee Jae Myung in Hanoi on Wednesday (22 April), announcing a series of cooperation agreements spanning technology, energy, and investment.

South Korea remains Vietnam’s largest foreign investor and a key trading partner, with bilateral trade exceeding $90 billion in 2025. The leaders described the relationship as reflecting “high political trust” amid expanding economic ties.

Key developments include:

  • Agreements on science, technology, and innovation cooperation frameworks
  • Plans covering digital development, intellectual property, and nuclear power projects
  • Expanded focus on semiconductors, AI, smart cities, and infrastructure
  • A shared trade target of $150 billion by 2030

Lee said global geopolitical uncertainty and intensifying technological competition made deeper cooperation essential. To Lam reiterated Vietnam’s aim to attract advanced South Korean investment as part of its “new growth model” to support long-term economic upgrading.
