Kazakhstan President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and Uzbekistan President Shavkat Mirziyoyev met in Bukhara to advance Kazakhstan–Uzbekistan cooperation, focusing on trade, infrastructure and digital transformation.

Bilateral trade reached nearly $5 billion in 2025, with both leaders targeting significant expansion through joint industrial and logistics projects.

  • Trade target: plans to double bilateral trade in coming years
  • New focus areas: digital technologies, water management, environmental protection
  • Infrastructure: launch of Jibek Joli border checkpoint (Sept 2026) to boost connectivity
  • Energy: progress on Kambarata hydropower plant and green energy exports

Both sides emphasised implementing agreements, improving border efficiency, and expanding supply chains, including rare metals processing.

The leaders also reviewed AI development, e-government systems, and industrial projects in Bukhara, alongside cultural exchanges aimed at strengthening regional ties.
