US–Iran diplomatic efforts have faltered after Donald Trump cancelled a planned delegation visit to Pakistan, aimed at advancing talks on the ongoing Iran conflict.

The trip, involving Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, was scrapped shortly after Abbas Araghchi concluded discussions in Islamabad. Trump said Witkoff would be wasting “too much time”, adding that if Iran wanted to talk “all they have to do is call”.

Tehran has expressed conditional openness to diplomacy, while questioning US commitment. The standoff continues amid tensions over the Strait of Hormuz and Iran’s nuclear programme.

Key developments:

  • Ceasefire extension holds despite stalled US–Iran talks
  • Iran restricts Hormuz access, impacting global oil supply routes
  • US naval presence increases to counter Iranian oil exports
  • Pakistan mediates indirect diplomatic engagement
