Türkiye and Spain have signed a €2.6 billion defence agreement for the export of Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI)-built Hurjet jet trainers to the Spanish Air and Space Force.
Under the Airbus-led programme, 30 aircraft designated SAETA II will replace Spain’s ageing F-5 fleet. The agreement includes simulation systems, combat training infrastructure, maintenance and long-term logistics support.
- Deliveries are scheduled in phases between 2028 and 2035.
- Spanish industry participation will account for 60% of the programme.
- The project is expected to generate around 2,500 jobs in Spain.
- Airbus will modernise the training centre at Talavera la Real Air Base.
Haluk Gorgun, Secretary of Turkish Defence Industries, described the programme as a model of “co-production and co-development” between NATO allies. Maria Amparo Valcarce Garcia, Spain’s State Secretary for Defence, said the agreement would strengthen Spain’s strategic autonomy and defence capabilities.
