Kosovo is expected to hold another snap election after parliament failed to elect a new president before the constitutional deadline, extending the country’s political crisis and institutional deadlock.

Prime Minister Albin Kurti was unable to secure opposition support for his presidential candidate after the term of former President Vjosa Osmani ended earlier this month. Under Kosovo’s constitutional rules, a two-thirds parliamentary presence is required for a valid presidential vote.

At midnight, acting President and parliamentary speaker Albulena Haxhiu said parliament was considered dissolved following a Constitutional Court ruling. An election date is expected to be announced soon, with Kosovo now set for its third national vote in just over a year.

The continued political uncertainty has raised concerns over governance, international funding, and Kosovo’s long-term European Union aspirations.
