Russian troops are advancing toward Kostiantynivka in Ukraine’s Donetsk region, with Ukraine’s Army Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi reporting sustained infiltration attempts near the heavily fortified eastern “fortress belt”. Counter-sabotage operations remain active around the city.
“We are repelling the Russian occupiers’ persistent attempts to gain a foothold in the outskirts of Kostiantynivka using infiltration tactics. Counter-sabotage measures are going on in the city,” Oleksandr Syrskyi said on the Telegram app.
Battlefield monitoring group DeepState places Russian units within approximately one kilometre of the southern outskirts, with some areas designated as a grey zone.
Russia’s Defence Ministry claims the capture of Novodmytrivka north of the city, while General Valery Gerasimov has previously described multi-directional advances amid increased April assaults.
Key developments:
- Syrskyi said that Russian offensive attempts had risen noticeably in April. Since Monday, Russian troops have carried out 83 assaults in this sector using small infantry groups, he added.
- Forces reported within ~1km of Kostiantynivka; grey zone control persists
- Russia claims Myropillia in Sumy region; Ukrainian forces dispute the report
