Türkiye and Algeria signed multiple bilateral agreements in Ankara on Thursday (7 May) as President Recep Tayyip Erdogan hosted Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune for the first meeting of the High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council.

The leaders signed a joint declaration following bilateral talks focused on trade, transport, telecommunications, agriculture, investment and media cooperation.

Key developments included:

  • Launch of negotiations for a preferential trade agreement between Türkiye and Algeria.
  • Agreements covering international passenger and goods transport, disaster management and driving licence recognition.
  • New cooperation frameworks in industry, agriculture, telecommunications and investment promotion.
  • Media agreements between TRT and Algeria’s Radio Corporation, including cooperation on television, radio and combating disinformation.

Senior ministers from both governments signed the agreements during the Ankara summit, reflecting expanding Türkiye-Algeria economic and strategic relations in 2026.
