Türkiye has removed a restriction on direct trade with Armenia, in a symbolic step towards improving relations between the two neighbours, according to Turkish Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Öncü Keçeli.
The change allows goods transiting via third countries to list Türkiye or Armenia as their final origin or destination, easing a long-standing designation rule.
Armenia welcomed the move, with Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Ani Badalyan calling it an important step towards full normalisation, including the potential opening of the border and establishment of diplomatic relations.
- Trade designation restrictions on Türkiye–Armenia shipments lifted
- No formal diplomatic relations; border closed since the 1990s
- Special envoys continue normalisation talks
- Direct flights and limited visa easing already in place
Keçeli said technical work on reopening the shared border is ongoing alongside broader economic cooperation efforts.
