Cyprus’s centre-right Democratic Rally (DISY) secured first place in the 2026 parliamentary election, winning 27.2% of the vote and 17 seats in the House of Representatives.

Left-wing AKEL finished second with 23.9% and 16 seats, while far-right ELAM recorded a historic result, placing third with 10.9% and eight seats. The centrist Democratic Party (DIKO) also secured eight seats with 10% of the vote.

The election highlighted growing anti-establishment sentiment, with newly formed ALMA – Citizens for Cyprus and MEP Fidias Panayiotou’s Direct Democracy party both entering parliament.

Key developments:

  • DISY retained its position as Cyprus’s largest parliamentary party.
  • ELAM achieved its strongest electoral performance to date.
  • ALMA won 5.8% and four seats.
  • Direct Democracy secured 5.4% and four seats.

The new parliament is expected to influence legislation, economic reforms, migration policy and preparations for the 2028 presidential election.
