Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Israel’s military has been instructed to expand its control to 70% of the Gaza Strip, as tensions persist despite the October 2025 ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas.

Speaking at a conference, Netanyahu said Israeli forces currently control around 60% of Gaza. He stated: “We are now in 60% of the territory of the Gaza Strip… We were at 50%, we moved to 60%.”

Netanyahu added: “My directive is to move step by step — first of all 70. Let’s start with that.” He also said Israel was “tightening” pressure on Hamas and described ongoing operations as efforts to “squeeze them from every direction.”

Key developments include:

  • Hamas accused Israel of undermining the ceasefire by altering territorial boundaries.
  • More than 850 deaths in Gaza have been reported since the ceasefire began, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Public Health.
  • Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz reiterated Israel’s objective of targeting Hamas leadership.
  • International concerns remain over the possibility of Gaza becoming permanently divided.
