Demonstrators marched through central Lima on Saturday (30 May) ahead of Peru’s 7 June presidential runoff election, which will see Keiko Fujimori face left-wing candidate Pedro Sanchez.

The peaceful march began at San Martin Square and passed through the historic centre of the capital, with participants expressing opposition to Fujimori’s candidacy. Similar demonstrations were also reported in Arequipa and Huancayo.

The closely watched election follows a competitive first round involving 35 candidates and comes amid continuing debate over Peru’s political future and democratic governance.
