Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s Civil Contract Party has secured victory in Armenia’s parliamentary election, retaining a majority and reinforcing the country’s increasingly pro-European foreign policy direction.
Official results showed Civil Contract winning 49.8% of the vote, ahead of the Strong Armenia Alliance, led by Samvel Karapetyan, on 23.2%. The Armenia Alliance finished third with 9.9%.
Key developments:
- Civil Contract secured a parliamentary majority with 49.8% of votes.
- Strong Armenia Alliance won 23.2%, emerging as the main opposition force.
- Pashinyan pledged to continue pursuing a peace agreement with Azerbaijan.
- Armenia will seek closer ties with Europe while maintaining economic links with Russia.
Pashinyan said voters had chosen “peace, regional prosperity and regional cooperation”, while reiterating support for stronger relations with Europe. The result follows years of strained ties with Moscow and comes as Armenia continues efforts to normalise relations with both Azerbaijan and Turkiye.
