Kenya has strengthened ties with both Finland and Norway through a series of new agreements focused on education, technology, climate action, peacebuilding and economic cooperation.

During a State Visit to Helsinki, President William Ruto and President Alexander Stubb witnessed the signing of three memoranda of understanding covering education, digital innovation, and climate resilience. 

The agreements aim to expand cooperation in vocational training, public service digitisation, innovation ecosystems, environmental sustainability and green growth.

Key developments with Finland:

  • Agreements signed on education, digital transformation and climate action.
  • Support for stronger Kenya–EU economic cooperation.
  • Shared calls for reform of the United Nations Security Council, including greater African representation.

Meanwhile, in Oslo, President William Ruto and Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre witnessed the signing of two agreements between Kenya and Norway focused on peacebuilding and climate cooperation.

Key developments with Norway:

  • A memorandum on peace mediation and conflict resolution to enhance knowledge sharing and capacity building.
  • A climate cooperation agreement under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement aimed at supporting sustainable development and emissions reductions.
  • Discussions on trade, investment, renewable energy, regional peace and security.

The agreements reflect Kenya’s continued efforts to deepen international partnerships across Europe while advancing economic development, climate goals and regional stability.
