United States and Iran have agreed to a memorandum of understanding aimed at ending more than 100 days of conflict, with the formal signing scheduled for 19 June.

According to statements from both governments, the agreement provides for an immediate suspension of hostilities, including in Lebanon, while negotiations towards a final settlement continue.

Key developments:

  • Pakistan and Qatar mediated the agreement and will facilitate technical talks ahead of the signing ceremony.
  • The Strait of Hormuz is expected to reopen to international shipping, while US naval restrictions affecting Iran are set to be lifted.
  • A 60-day negotiation period is planned to address outstanding issues and verify implementation commitments.
  • Reports indicate discussions may cover sanctions relief, frozen Iranian assets and future nuclear-related arrangements.

US President Donald Trump described the agreement as a step towards regional security, while Iran’s Supreme National Security Council said the deal would bring an immediate end to military operations.
