Germany and Poland have marked the 35th anniversary of their Treaty on Good-Neighbourliness, Friendship and Cooperation, reaffirming their commitment to European security, economic cooperation and bilateral relations.

In a joint declaration, the two governments described the treaty as the foundation of modern German-Polish cooperation, while highlighting the importance of working together through the European Union and NATO amid ongoing security challenges linked to Russia’s war against Ukraine.

Key developments:

  • Germany and Poland welcomed a new bilateral Defence Cooperation Agreement.
  • Both countries pledged to strengthen resilience against hybrid threats and disinformation.
  • Ministers supported expanding cross-border infrastructure, trade, digitalisation and artificial intelligence cooperation.
  • The declaration also reaffirmed commitments to historical remembrance, including a memorial in Berlin and the return of Polish cultural property.

The statement concluded that closer German-Polish cooperation remains essential for Europe’s security, prosperity and unity.
