US President Donald Trump said a memorandum of understanding between the United States and Iran is not yet a final agreement, warning that Washington could resume military action if Tehran fails to meet its expectations.
Trump made the remarks while speaking alongside Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi before a bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the G7 Summit in Evian, France.
Trump stressed that the agreement remains conditional, saying: “No, it’s not final. It’s a memorandum of understanding.” He added: “If I don’t like it, we’ll go back to shooting at them, dropping bombs on their head.” Trump continued, “If they don’t behave, we’ll go right back to dropping bombs right smack in the middle of their head… because they’ve misbehaved for 47 years.”
The US President also defended his administration’s previous military operations against Iran, arguing they had significantly weakened the country’s military capabilities, helped secure shipping routes and contributed to lower global oil prices. He further claimed earlier US action against Iranian military commander Qassem Soleimani had altered the regional security landscape.
Trump’s comments come days after the United States and Iran announced a memorandum of understanding intended to create a framework for further negotiations rather than a final peace agreement.
