Labour politician Andy Burnham has won the Makerfield by-election, securing a return to the UK Parliament after increasing the party’s majority in the north-west England constituency.
Burnham received 24,937 votes, ahead of Reform UK candidate Robert Kenyon with 15,696, while Rebecca Shepherd of Restore Britain finished third with 3,111.

- Burnham increased Labour’s majority from 5,399 to more than 9,000 votes.
- He said Makerfield had “voted for change” and pledged to help “heal the division of this campaign”.

Elsewhere, the Conservative Party won the Aberdeen South by-election from the Scottish National Party (SNP), while the SNP retained Arbroath and Broughty Ferry.
