US President Donald Trump criticised migration levels in the United Kingdom after being asked whether he had discussed the issue with UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham.
Speaking to reporters at the White House following an announcement on the redevelopment of Washington Dulles International Airport, Trump said he had raised the issue briefly with Burnham, adding: “He’s going to have to mention it because it’s killing your country.”
Trump also criticised the previous government led by former Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer, saying it had done “very little” to address migration. He claimed migrants were arriving in Europe from Africa, South America and parts of Asia, describing the situation as “an invasion” and adding that “the UK is a prime suspect.”
Migration remains a prominent political issue in the UK. While the Burnham government has yet to publish its full long-term immigration strategy since taking office, the Prime Minister has repeatedly said his administration will govern in line with Labour’s election manifesto and existing policy commitments while setting out its broader legislative agenda.
