The Government of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and the Alliance Fleuve Congo/March 23 Movement (AFC/M23) have agreed on further steps to advance the Doha Framework for a Comprehensive Peace Agreement following meetings in Switzerland from 17–21 August 2026.
Key developments include:
- Expanded Joint Verification Mechanism Plus (EJVM+) preparations continued ahead of a ceasefire verification mission in Minembwe.
- A new mechanism will monitor implementation of commitments under the Doha Framework.
- A roadmap was agreed to guide negotiations and implementation of remaining protocols.
- Participants reaffirmed their commitment to pursuing a comprehensive peace agreement for eastern DRC.
The meetings included representatives from Qatar, the United States, the Republic of Togo as African Union mediator, the African Union Commission, and Switzerland, which all pledged continued support for peace and stability in the DRC and the wider Great Lakes region.
