Kosovo’s parliament has re-elected Prime Minister Albin Kurti after his party emerged as the largest in the June 2026 parliamentary election, securing 62 votes in the 120-seat assembly. The election followed months of political uncertainty after parliament failed to elect a new president, triggering a snap vote.
Kurti said his new mandate would focus on strengthening security and prosperity, while warning that repeated elections had disrupted governance. However, uncertainty remains over the election of Kosovo’s next president, with another snap election possible if parliament fails to secure the required two-thirds majority.
The political challenges come as Kosovo continues its push for European Union membership, with Brussels emphasising the need for stable institutions capable of delivering reforms. Delayed reforms have also affected access to EU funding.
