France has experienced a nationwide day of demonstrations as students, trade unions and “Gilets Jaunes” (Yellow Vest) activists mobilised over rising living costs, public services and education concerns.

The movement grew from student protests calling for improved school conditions and expanded into broader demonstrations linked to purchasing power, fuel prices and social policies.

  • Hundreds of thousands participated in demonstrations across France, according to organisers, while authorities reported clashes and hundreds of arrests.
  • Protests took place in cities including Paris, Marseille, Lyon and Toulouse, with some incidents involving fires, vandalism and confrontations with police.
  • Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez condemned violence, while President Emmanuel Macron called for grievances to be expressed peacefully.

The mobilisation has drawn comparisons with the 2018–2019 Yellow Vest movement, reflecting renewed debate in France over economic pressures, inequality and confidence in public institutions.
