The Netherlands has announced a €1.2 billion non-military support package for Ukraine over the next three years, alongside an additional €500 million military aid package, aimed at strengthening the country’s resilience during the ongoing war.

During a visit to Kyiv on Wednesday (27 Oct), Minister of Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation Sjoerd Sjoerdsma said the support would prioritise Ukraine’s urgent needs, particularly energy, water infrastructure and reconstruction efforts.

The Netherlands will also support humanitarian assistance, healthcare, demining, housing and economic recovery. During talks with Prime Minister Rob Jetten, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy highlighted the importance of continued international support ahead of planned diplomatic efforts, including a proposed trilateral meeting in Abu Dhabi.

The package reflects a broader European effort to sustain Ukraine’s defence, economy and reconstruction capacity while diplomatic discussions continue. Supporters argue it strengthens European security and Ukraine’s ability to withstand Russian attacks, while debates remain over the long-term costs and strategy of continued assistance.
