China and Gabon agreed to elevate bilateral ties to a China-Gabon community with a shared future for the new era after talks between Chinese President Xi Jinping and Gabonese President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema in Beijing on Friday (6 Nov).
The leaders pledged to expand cooperation in trade, investment, mining, industrial development, supply chains and security, while supporting Gabon’s economic transformation. A joint statement also outlined cooperation aligned with Gabon’s 2026–2030 National Growth and Development Plan, alongside continued implementation of China’s zero-tariff policy for eligible African exports.
Key developments:
- China and Gabon elevated bilateral relations to a new partnership framework.
- Cooperation agreements covered the Global Security Initiative, industrial and supply chains, zero-tariff trade and education.
- The joint statement expanded cooperation on mining, infrastructure, investment and economic development.
The upgraded partnership reflects China’s continued effort to deepen its economic and diplomatic engagement across Africa, where access to critical minerals, expanding trade and infrastructure investment remain central to Beijing’s long-term strategy.
For Gabon, closer cooperation with China supports its industrialisation ambitions and economic diversification, while reinforcing its role within broader China–Africa relations as both countries seek stronger ties with the Global South.
