United States President Donald Trump has issued a renewed ultimatum to Iran, warning it has 48 hours to “make a deal or open up the Strait of Hormuz.”

In a post on Truth Social, United States President Donald Trump wrote: “Remember when I gave Iran ten days to MAKE A DEAL or OPEN UP THE HORMUZ STRAIT. Time is running out – 48 hours before all Hell will reign down on them. Glory be to GOD! President DONALD J. TRUMP”

The statement follows recent incidents in which Iran claimed responsibility for downing a US F-15 and an A-10 aircraft near the strategic waterway, raising questions over US assertions of air superiority. Reports also indicate a missing US pilot after a crash over Iranian territory.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Tehran remains open to diplomacy but rejected a US 15-point proposal as “unreasonable”.

“What we care about are the terms of a conclusive and lasting END to the illegal war that is imposed on us,” Araghchi said in a post on X.

He also criticised strikes on nuclear and petrochemical sites, warning of wider regional risks.

“Remember the Western outrage about hostilities near Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant in Ukraine?

“Israel-U.S. have bombed our Bushehr plant four times now. Radioactive fallout will end life in GCC capitals, not Tehran,” Abbas Araghchi said through US social media company X.

Attacks on Iranian petrochemical facilities also reveal “real objectives,” Araghchi argued

More than 100 legal experts have cautioned that targeting civilian infrastructure could breach the Geneva Convention, as both sides continue to send mixed signals over potential negotiations.
